USA: The Embassy of Saudi Arabia is now on the “Khashoggi Way” – News from abroad

Washington – Monument against the forgetting of bestial murder.

On October 2, 2018, Jamal Khashoggi, a journalist and regime critic († 59), was interrogated, tortured and eventually murdered at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

When the Saudis now look out of the window of their embassy in Washington, it is condemned as a memorial: a street sign called “Jamal Khashoggi Way.”

Part of New Hampshire Avenue is now called the Jamal Khashoggi Way. In 2018, the protest sign of the activist Claude Taylor hung here. The street has now been officially renamed.

Last December, Washington City Council unanimously voted to name a section of the street after a Washington Post journalist who was assassinated by the CIA at the behest of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia.

Khashoggi was a harsh critic of the Saudi regime and was brutally murdered at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Washington has a long history of teasing foreign governments about street name changes – the Wisconsin Avenue section in front of the Russian embassy has been renamed Boris Nemtsov Plaza. On March 7, activist Claude Taylor posted a sign renaming the embassy’s front door to “President Zelensky Way.”
