For nearly 50 years, the United States had a federal right to abortion. Now the Supreme Court has overturned it – and the laws of the individual states are applying again.

The US Supreme Court has repealed the national abortion law. Six of the nine judges voted in favor, the Supreme Court said.

They decided against a 50-year-old groundbreaking decision. In 1973, Roe v. Wade allowed abortions throughout the United States before the fetus is viable, which is approximately 24 weeks of pregnancy.

State law applies

With the new verdict, there is now a decision on abortion rights in individual states. Several states already have laws that severely restrict abortion. They are now in force after the single regulation has ceased to apply.

In May, Democrats introduced the right to abortion in the Senate. However, this did not work.
