InnoNature: Startup with natural products for an energetic and efficient life

A huge cost factor in healthcare: unhealthy nutrition.

The consequent costs of unhealthy eating are huge. According to a study by Martin Luther University in Halle-Witttenberg and the biotechnology company Brain AG, diet-related diseases cause an annual cost of € 17 billion in Germany alone.

Diet-related illnesses include:

cardiovascular diseases

Diseases of the cardiovascular system are among the typical diseases of civilization in the so-called developed industrial countries – such as Germany. They are the leading cause of death.

Of most importance is coronary heart disease (CHD), which is based on the narrowing of one or more coronary vessels. Clogging of the coronary arteries causes a heart attack. Other major cardiovascular diseases include stroke and high blood pressure.

Diabetes mellitus (type 2)

“Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease. The two most important forms are type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that occurs mainly in children and adolescents (juvenile diabetes). The immune system itself attacks the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas and destroys them (absolute lack of insulin). Type 2 diabetes is based on the reduced effect of insulin (insulin resistance).

In 2007, more than 7 million Germans were treated for diabetes mellitus. This increase is primarily due to an increase in diabetes 2. (Source: RKI)

obesity

Adiposity (obesity) refers to weight gain caused by a large increase in body fat with pathological effects. The result is a chronic health disorder with a reduced quality of life and an increased risk of illness and death.

The body mass index (BMI) is used as a guide for determining overweight and obesity. BMI is determined as the ratio of the square of weight and height: BMI = body weight (kg) / height ² (m²). From a BMI of 25 kg / m2, adults are considered overweightb BMI 30 kg / m2 as obese.

food allergies

Foods such as eggs, nuts or dairy products cause various intolerances that are not always caused by allergies. Under food allergies indicates an increased specific response of the immune system to certain foods or food ingredients (allergens).

Gastrointestinal diseases

Typical intestinal disorders are abdominal pain and persistent diarrhea or constipation. The trigger is usually food intolerance, bacteria or viruses. The course is usually relatively harmless because the symptoms subside after one to two weeks.

Chronic bowel disease is associated with recurrent and sometimes persistent outbreaks and associated suffering. The specific reasons are often not identifiable and the causes of such diseases are largely unexplained.

Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are the two most common chronic inflammatory bowel diseases. The symptoms of the two diseases are very similar, although they occur in different areas of the intestine.
