AGAINSTBefore the start of the G-7 summit in Bavaria, US President Joe Biden arrived in Germany for his first visit since taking office. Air Force One landed in Munich late Saturday night with the president on board. Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder received Biden at the airport.
He then boarded a Marine One helicopter for a short flight to the top of Schloss Elmau. This is where the summit of the seven leading western industrialized countries begins this Sunday. Before that, Biden wants to meet with Chancellor Olaf Scholz for bilateral talks. The G-7 summit in Bavaria lasts until Tuesday.

For Biden, this is his first visit to Germany since he took the presidential oath in January 2021. Germany currently chairs the “Group of Seven”. In addition to Germany and the USA, the G 7 also includes Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Japan. After the G-7 meeting, Biden plans to travel to the NATO summit in Madrid before returning to Washington on Thursday.
French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte have already landed in front of Biden in Munich. Söder also accepted them.

Russia’s war on aggression against Ukraine and its aftermath will be the focus of G7 and NATO summits. It was only last Thursday that the United States announced additional arms supplies to Ukraine in the amount of $ 450 million (about 428 million euros). Since the start of the war four months ago, the US government has said it has promised or already supplied Ukraine with weapons and equipment worth approximately $ 6.1 billion (€ 5.8 billion).
