Ukraine reports rocket fire from Belarus

As the northern command of the Ukrainian army announced on Facebook, “20 missiles” were fired from Belarusian territory and from the air in the village of Desna in the Chernihiv region. So there were no casualties. The Ukrainian army said that the infrastructure had been affected, without stating whether it was military infrastructure.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, “six Tu-22M3 aircraft shot down 12 guided missiles over the city of Petrykav” in southern Belarus. The bombers took off from Shaykovka Airport in the Kaluga region of western Russia, the secret service said. Then they entered Belarusian airspace and returned to Russia after the rockets were fired. In addition to the village of Desna, targets “in the Kiev and Sumy areas” were also hit, the agency said. The village of Desna, which had a population of 7,500 before the war, is located 70 kilometers north of Kiev and 70 kilometers south of the Belarusian border.

The former Soviet republic of Belarus, ruled by Alexander Lukashenko, is in fact described as neutral in a war that has lasted for more than four months. Especially in the first weeks of the war, however, Belarus served as a retreat and logistical base for the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Lukashenko is an ally of Russian President Putin. The attacks took place before the meeting this Saturday in St. Petersburg, Russia. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is scheduled to visit Belarus on Thursday and Friday.

The military complex in Javoriv in the Lviv region (formerly Lemberg) has once again become the target of rocket fire. According to Ukrainian sources, six missiles were shot down by ship in the Black Sea. Four people were injured. According to the Ukrainian system of air defense, she managed to shoot down two missiles in the Khmelnytsky region. The debris was not supposed to cause any damage.

In Ukraine, a national air emergency was already in place on Saturday evening. This follows from an adequate overview of the situation in the country. In addition, the Ukrainian news website 24tv reported explosions from the city of Zaporozhye in the southeast of the country – and also from the central Ukrainian Dnieper.
